The Rock formations of Dwejra The Quaternary Period of the Pleistocene is also represented here with deposits which have revealed calcified roots and gastropods which are still extant today. It must have been during this period that the deep river valleys were formed and the valleys at Dwejra are surely no exception. Solution subsidence structures Ħaġret il-Ġeneral or, as it is popularly known, Fungus Rock, and the Azure Window are two other characteristic geological features of the area. NOTE: The collection of fossils is illegal according to the Cultural Heritage Act / 1992.
